[Previous entry: "Farewell Shea, Welcome Kim"] [Main Index] [Next entry: "Red Sox Nation votes Varitek All-Star"] 07/10/2003 Archived Entry: "what happened to pitching inside?" I don’t know what all the fuss is about over Pedro pitching inside to Soriano and Jeter. Okay, so it sure made for an interesting game. But the pitch to Soriano was a strike and Soriano fouled it off his own hand. It was about time a pitcher backed Soriano back off the plate! Everyone knows Soriano hangs almost half his body over it. And I haven’t seen a pitcher, until Pedro that backed him off. What happened to pitchers being dominant? Other than a handful of pitchers like Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Pedro Martinez, and maybe Roger Clemens, it seems like batters are dominating the plate and pitch location rather than the pitcher. Pedro’s pitch to Jeter has a little more of a question mark next to it. But still it was a lot closer to a strike than when say Roger Clemens decides to hit someone in the head! That is a true concern, what will Roger do the next time he faces the Red Sox? He has absolutely nothing to lose now. He’s already a lock for the Hall and supposedly it’s his last season. It’s quite likely he’ll go after Nomar and Manny or Millar! Pedro can say that Georgie Porgie doesn’t have enough money to install fear in him. But doesn’t he have any concern for his teammates? I sure wonder what the rest of the team thinks about the situation.
