07/06/2004 Archived Entry: "Red Sox All-Stars"

It's great to see Ortiz and Schilling are going to the All-Star game along with Manny. Although I seriously don't understand why Varitek is not on the "Final Vote" roster. There's no way a Yankee player should be on the Final Vote roster over Varitek when the Yankees already have five players on the roster.

You will when they take the wild card! OK, not even I believe that.

Jim....nobody cares about the Indians (although Hafner is a key part of my fantasy team)

Yes Martinez played 12 games in 2002 and 49 games in 2003 but 2004 looks to be his first full season in the bigs. Tek's hitting at least 10 points higher than his career batting average. And his bat is an added bonus in an already solid lineup. It's what he does behind the plate and in the clubhouse that earns him the majority of that almost 7 mill.

Victor Martinez's 2004 salary is $304,500 (3 years experience). Jason Varitek's 2004 salary is $6,900,000 (8 years experience). TEK needs to get the bat going. Great defense, but offense is lacking.

Seven Yankees including the manager now on the AL team. That is just too lopsided! It's good to see the rookies like Victor Martinez recognized but I don't think he deserves a spot over Varitek. I look forward to seeing all the different talent though.
